COP15 v.9 – 14 Dic.

El día de hoy se desarrolló otro side-event y los anfitriones fueron The Nature Conservancy & Conservation International y FAO, los puntos clave fueron:

• Considerando que ésta es una iniciativa relativamente reciente debemos de probarla en el campo, para mejorarla y usar los instrumentos multisectoriales disponibles.
• Tres cosas importan para la implementación de REDD:
1. Preparación.- en una base nacional, MRV, escenarios de referencia, moldeamiento, reducciones de gei, asuntos legales.
2. Experiencia.- Cualquier área desde 161 Has a + 140,000, la confianza debe irse desarrollando, la experiencia y el expertise debe existir
3. Financiamiento.- Por lo menos de 5 años para demostrar factibilidad
• Los Gobiernos, las ONG's, el sector Privado y las instituciones tienen diferentes roles y responsabilidades y deben tener apertura a los grupos multidisciplinarios
• Hay que tener cuidado de generar muchas expectativas, compartir la información se vuelve cada vez más importante.
• Se presentaron ejemplos por colegas de Panamá e Indonesia
• Sin REDD no podríamos alcanzar la barrera de 2 grados Celsius para el calentamiento global.
• Una falla de mercado es no tener un precio en la tonelada de carbono, esto evitaría fugas internacionales que son tan importantes en la forestería.
• La acción pronta es precisa, no debemos tardarnos.
• La responsabilidad Histórica (de emisiones de gei) puede ser una buena guía para el flujo de los fondos y alcanzar una Disposición o voluntad globales para pagar estos servicios ambientales.
• Otra gran falla de mercado es no haber tenido un valor económico para mantener estos activos planetarios.
• Si se implementa bien, el mecanismo REDD provee una oportunidad de cambiar modos de vida en una manera positiva.


Today a side event was held and the hosts where The Nature Conservancy & Conservation International and FAO; the main key points were:
• Since this is a fairly new Initiative we must test-drive the first proposals to make them better, making use of the multisectoral instruments that are available
• Three things matter for implementation of REDD:
1. Readiness. - On a country basis, MRV, reference scenario, modeling, reductions of ghg, legal issues.
2. Experiences.- Anywhere from 161 Has to +140,000, trust must be developed , relevant expertise must exist
3. Financing.- For 5 years minimum to demonstrate feasibility
• Governments, NGO`s, Private Sector and Institutions have different roles and different responsibilities and embrace multidisciplinary approaches.
• Be careful in generating lots of expectations, sharing information is becoming more and more important
• Examples where presented by Colleagues from Panama and Indonesia
• Without REDD we cannot reach the 2 degrees threshold for global warming.
• A market failure we have today is not having a price on the ton of carbon this will avoid international leakages that is very important on forestry.
• Early action is precise, we must not delay.
• Historical Responsibility (of GHG emissions) can be a guide for funds to flow in order to achieve a Global Willingness to Pay for these environmental services.
• Another big market failure is not having a economic value for maintaining this planetary assets
• If well implemented the REDD Mechanism provides an opportunity to change livelihoods for good.

Integral View on Climate Change

Me parece importante revisar este artículo ya que encuentro muchas coincidencias con esta visión y sobre todo para poder comprender y organizar algo tan complejo como el cambio climático, su ciencia, sus dinámicas internacionales, sus actores y sus preferencias. Este marco conceptual ayuda mucho y evita la sensación de perdernos ante tanta compejidad.

I think it is very important to review this article since i agree with this vision and , above all, to be able to comprehend and organize something as complex as climate change, the science around it, the international dynamics, their actors and their prefereces, this conceptual framework helps a lot and avoids the feeling of being lost in facing this much complexity.
