COP 15 v.2 - 7 Dic.

Hola a todos,
Ayer por la Noche (aunque aquí es noche durante 17 horas al día) se realizó el primer
side-event relacionado con REDD en la cuenca del Congo en el Centro de África, fue positivo y muy interesante, los puntos clave fueron los siguientes:
• Se necesita una plataforma regional y transnacional para crear un mecanismo regional
• Se presentaron resultados de el inventario satelital (SPOT, LANDSAT, MODIS)
• El acercamiento Nacional para la CMNUCC es fundamental
• La info. base para desarrollar proyectos REDD tiene que ver con
1. Línea de Base
2. Metodología Apropiada para asociar inventarios y flujos con Co2
3. Cambios en la cobertura forestal
4. Calcular las emisiones por degradación
5. MRV (Monitorear, Reportar, Verificar)
6. Manejo del bosque

Al final fue muy interesante contar con la participación de Wangari Maathai del “Green Belt Movement” (Nobel de la paz 2004) quien hizo comentarios acerca de la necesidad de medir y estudiar los bosques para saber qué es lo que estamos perdiendo, la capacidad de ponerse de acuerdo y la necesidad de impulsar este tipo de trabajo para que la información esté disponible para todos y se extiendan por el mundo este tipo de proyectos con justicia e inclusión de las comunidades locales.

Hi everyone,
Yesterday night (although here its night 17 hours a day) the first side-event related to REDD was held addressing the Congo basin in Central Africa, it was positive, interesting and the key points were:
• A regional and transnational platform is needed for creating a regional mechanism
• Results were presented by the satellite inventory (SPOT, LANDSAT, MODIS)
• National Approach is fundamental for UNFCCC
• Basic info for REDD projects has to do with :
1. Baseline
2. Appropriate Methodology to associate stocks and flux with Co2
3. Changes on the forest cover
4. Calculate emissions for degradation
5. MRV (Monitor, Report and Verify)
6. Forest Management

At the end it was very interesting to have Wangari Maathai del Green Belt movement (Nobel Peace prize 2004) commenting about the necessity of measuring and studying the forest to know what are we missing, also about the capacity of reaching agreements and the necessity of giving this kind of work impulse so that the info is available to everyone and this kind of projects are widespread through the world with justice and the inclusion of local communities.
